Metal Stamping Dies Manufacturing & Repair

Metal stamping dies are where IMH excels. From design and build to the millionth hit, we provide complete die manufacturing and maintenance services. Our team supports single hit tools, compound dies, progressive dies, and roll form tooling for both new projects and existing production. We warranty all of our new builds and stand behind our work.

With our CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, wire EDM, and grinders, we manufacture components in all sizes—from small enough to fit in the palm of your hand to large enough to fit in the back of your truck. Our in-house machining, grinding, and wire EDM capabilities allow us to hold tight fits, extend tool life, and keep your stamping operations running efficiently.

Stamping Die Types

Single Hit Dies
Single hit dies, also known as line dies or stage dies, perform one operation per station. IMH designs and manufactures single hit dies for blanking, piercing, forming, drawing, and trimming operations. These dies are used in tandem press lines or for simpler parts where progressive tooling isn’t required. We build single hit dies complete from start to finish, handling all machining and assembly in-house.

Compound Dies
Compound dies perform multiple operations in a single press stroke, making them ideal for parts requiring precision alignment between features. IMH manufactures compound dies where blanking, piercing, and forming occur simultaneously. Our wire EDM capabilities allow us to achieve the tight clearances necessary for clean shearing and precise part production.

Progressive Dies
Progressive dies perform multiple operations in sequence as the material advances through the die. IMH designs and builds progressive dies for high-volume production where efficiency and consistency are critical. From simple blanking and piercing operations to more complex forming sequences, we manufacture progressive dies that run reliably for millions of hits.

Roll Form Tooling
Roll forming creates complex profiles from continuous strip material. IMH supports roll form operations with complementary tooling including roll form pre-notch dies and roll form flying cut-off dies. We manufacture the dies, punches, and cut-off tooling necessary to produce notches, holes, and final part separation that coordinate with your roll forming line.

Die Design & Manufacturing

IMH provides complete die design services from concept through production. Our team utilizes CAD/CAM software and works directly from customer CAD files or prints to design stamping dies optimized for your specific application. We create detailed die layouts and assembly drawings, ensuring clear communication throughout the build process.

Our manufacturing capabilities include:

  • CNC machining centers for die shoes, holders, and complex components
  • Wire EDM machines with travels up to 20″ × 30″ × 18″ for punches, dies, and intricate details
  • CNC turning centers for cylindrical components like pins, bushings, and sleeves
  • Surface grinders for precision finishing of critical die surfaces
  • Heat treat processes to optimize tool steel performance and wear resistance

We manufacture die components in all sizes, from small precision punches to large die sections. Every component is inspected to verify it meets specifications before assembly. From the design phase through the millionth hit, we warranty all of our new builds and stand behind our work.

Die Repair & Component Replacement

The remanufacture of replacement stamping die components is an everyday occurrence at IMH. Whether we make new components from your supplied CAD data or prints, or reverse engineer your broken or worn-out details, we can handle the job complete from start to finish.

Our wire EDM and CNC capabilities allow us to manufacture replacement punches, die buttons, lifters, and other components with precision. We handle parts in all sizes and work quickly to get your dies back into production. Even if we didn’t build your die originally, our experienced team can maintain it and manufacture the replacement components you need.

Reverse Engineering

When prints or CAD data are unavailable, IMH specializes in reverse engineering stamping die components. We carefully measure and document existing tooling, then manufacture exact replacements. Whether you need to replace a broken component or recreate an obsolete detail, we can reverse engineer your parts and get you back into production.

Die Sharpening & Maintenance

Regular die maintenance extends tool life and maintains part quality. IMH provides sharpening services for stamping dies of all types. Our surface grinding capabilities ensure punches and dies are returned to optimal cutting condition with proper clearances maintained.

Even if we didn’t build your tool originally, our experienced team can maintain it and keep your stamping operations running efficiently. We understand how to sharpen dies while maintaining proper clearances and alignment.
