Job description

The machinist role involves the setup and operation of Mazak and Haas mills and lathes to achieve production standards and optimize performance. This position also includes programming using Mastercam to create and modify CNC programs for efficient and accurate machining. Responsibilities include inspecting raw materials for quality, ensuring tool accuracy through maintenance and inspection, and conducting quality control using precision measurement devices. The machinist must adhere to safety protocols, proactively troubleshoot production issues, and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency. This a day shift position 7am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Operator Responsibilities:

  • Set up and configure Mazak and Haas brand mills and lathes, and additional fabrication equipment ensuring optimal performance and adherence to production specifications.
  • Utilize CNC programming software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) to create, modify, and optimize programs for CNC machines, ensuring precision and efficiency in machining operations.
  • Prepare accurate quotes for new customer orders and review or adjust existing quotes to ensure alignment with customer requirements and company standards.
  • Operate Mazak and Haas brand mills and lathes to meet the company’s production expectations. Utilize secondary production equipment such as spot welders, drill press, tapping machines, CNC saw machines, and PEM hardware insertion machines during extended machine cycle times to ensure maximum productivity and systems output.
  • Material Inspection: Examine raw materials for defects or imperfections that could impact the machining process. Ensure that materials are of the required quality before initiating production.
  • Tool Maintenance: Maintain and inspect tooling for wear, damage, and proper alignment. Replace or adjust tools as needed to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • Quality Control: Use precision measurement devices such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to monitor the production process to verify that each component meets the specified dimensions and tolerances. Make necessary adjustments to machine settings if deviations are detected.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while operating CNC machinery. Maintain a clean and organized work area to minimize safety hazards.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot any issues that arise during the production process, such as machine malfunctions or irregularities in the machining process. Collaborate with supervisors and maintenance personnel to resolve problems promptly.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production output, scrap, machine settings, and any issues encountered during the process. Provide feedback to supervisors and engineering teams for process improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in discussions and initiatives aimed at improving production processes, tooling designs, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in metal fabrication, CNC machining or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Machinist, with experience with Mazak and Haas brand mills and lathes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and geometric tolerances.
  • Knowledge of metal materials and their behavior during manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements using various tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks and meet production deadlines.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
