Position Overview:

The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting and assessing the quality of fabricated metal products to ensure they meet established company and customer standards. They use a variety of precision tools and equipment to measure and test materials, as well as identify defects or deviations in the manufacturing process. Their insights drive continuous improvement initiatives within the production team, ensuring consistent product quality. A Quality Technician is expected to assist with gauge calibration, vision system inspections, and CMM operation as well as other advanced quality tasks. Additionally, they collaborate with the manufacturing team and other departments to implement corrective actions and improve overall production standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality inspections on fabricated parts by interpreting, measuring, and verifying mechanical dimensions and tolerances according to blueprints using standard measuring tools and equipment. 
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the first piece produced in a new production run to verify that it meets all specifications and quality standards. Document and communicate any discrepancies or deviations from the required standards to management.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Ensure that testing and measuring equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. 
  • Preserve and manage master sample pieces that serve as benchmarks for quality and accuracy.
  • Utilize internal document control systems and ERP software to reference blueprints and other important documents. Upload and maintain up-to-date records of all data.
  • Perform filing and tracking of quality control documents and reports. Maintain organized records to ensure easy retrieval and reference.
  • Create and update setup sheets that outline the steps and requirements for machine setup and operation. Ensure set-up sheets are clear, accurate, and accessible to production staff.
  • Provide training and guidance to new employees on quality control procedures and best practices. Mentor new staff to ensure they understand and adhere to the company’s quality standards and processes.
  • Collaborate with management teams to implement process improvements and address quality-related issues.
  • Operates equipment like a vision system or Romer/Farrow Arm and Polyworks software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience as a Quality Technician in a metal fabrication environment.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive, supportive atmosphere.

  • Physical lifting and movement: Ability to walk or stand 8-12 hours a day. Ability to lift, push, pull or move 50 pounds. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.
