Description

The Shipping and Receiving Lead is the knowledge expert in their department, dedicating the bulk of their time to managing shipping and receiving operations with precision and expertise. Their primary responsibility is overseeing the efficient movement of goods, ensuring seamless logistics processes, meeting deadlines, and upholding quality standards. Alongside their logistical duties, they train their fellow employees, act as a liaison between management and the shipping/receiving floor, and leverage their extensive knowledge and expertise to provide guidance. Leading by example, the Shipping and Receiving Lead sets the standard for excellence and safety, driving productivity while maintaining a steadfast focus on operational efficiency.

Shipping Responsibilities:

  • Safely and securely package products for shipment, including proper labeling and documentation to comply with shipping regulations.
  • Perform quality checks on outgoing shipments to ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain shipping records, including packing lists, and BOL’s, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the production team, customer service, and logistics partners to coordinate and communicate shipment status, delays, or any other relevant information.
  • Notifies supervisor of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
  • Completes information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Act as a liaison between the shipping department, production team, and external parties.
  • Record all activities in the inventory management system, updating stock levels as needed.
  • Provide shipping updates and tracking information to customers as needed.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices in all activities.

Receiving Responsibilities:

  • Receives incoming materials, components, and equipment deliveries. Verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers.
  • Inspect and report any damages, discrepancies, or quality issues with received items.
  • Label, categorize, and organize materials in the designated storage areas.
  • Record all received materials in the inventory management system, updating stock levels as needed.
  • Communicate with the procurement department regarding discrepancies, shortages, or overages.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure timely delivery of materials to support manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized receiving area.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices in all receiving activities.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership by consistently embodying a positive attitude, setting a standard for the team to follow.
  • Work with the Operations Manager daily to understand the workload and expectations for the shift. Monitor both primary and backup work to ensure adequate workload and staffing exist to meet the expectation. 
  • Monitor operator whiteboards to ensure the work center is appropriately scheduled and staffed, allowing plant goals for on time delivery to be met. 
  • Communicate any production issues to the Operations Manager that prevent expectations from being met, including critical maintenance items. 
  • Ensure the operators are trained and cross-trained to meet customer demand. 
  • Focus upon maximizing training across work centers to ensure IMH has maximum flexibility with the workforce. 
  • Escalate disciplinary items to the Production Manager for necessary follow-up.  
  • Ensure the safety of all employees on the shift. The Lead should monitor that all PPE is worn as necessary, and all operations are performed in a safe manner.   
  • Effectively escalate safety concerns, incidents, and injuries to management in a timely and comprehensive manner, ensuring swift and appropriate action is taken to mitigate risks and uphold a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to attendance requirements by proactively participating in all meetings scheduled by management, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and facilitating effective communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Perform any tasks deemed necessary by management to achieve company objectives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience with shipping in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment (valid forklift certification is a plus).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and computer systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive, supportive atmosphere.

  • Physical lifting and movement: Ability to walk or stand 8-12 hours a day. Ability to lift, push, pull or move 50 pounds. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.
